Taiwan & Israel

Most of the world is unaware of how closely tied Taiwan and Israel actually are. In fact, even the two countries are relatively unaware of their own significance in relation to each other.

Taiwan & IsraelThe Jerusalem Post recognizes many of their similar challenges and realities. Both countries are republics. Israel’s government was founded in 1948, Taiwan (Republic of China) relocated to the island of Formosa in 1949 when it became widely known as “Taiwan”. Both face large and near enemies—Islam, in the case of Israel, and Taiwan faces China.

But there is more to the connection between the two.

Both are strategically important to Western democracies. Islam must go through Israel if they want to reach the United States, just as Taiwan is one of the few bodies of land standing between the States and China.

Taiwan and Israel rarely see snow and their lands and mountains offer beautiful scenery and excellent agriculture.  · · · →

Election 2012

Most of my ideas about the election have already been said… most people’s ideas have already been said by someone. Romney spiked in the first debate. Biden’s a jerk and it shows like a Freudian slip. And I don’t like Moderates anywhere… not in politics, business, or the Church.

In the second presidential debate, I thought both candidates didn’t answer the first few questions head-on. Was the Secretary of Energy right, that his job is not to affect fuel prices? We still don’t know if Romney agrees… but Mitt did say a lot of good things about energy North America independence. Toward the end, Romney really had his game. We don’t have a “gun” problem, we have a “family” problem. As much as I’ve come to respect Romney over the past six months—now that he’s more real and less calculating—I was still surprised to hear someone talk about how crime originates with the family situation… on national TV!  · · · →

Typhoon Oasis

Typhoon Oasis (mp3)

I’m in a typhoon. You wouldn’t think so to look out my window. It’s been dry most of the day. I finally caught a light drizzle with my camera as pedestrians and bicyclists passed a side street intersection among the usual scooters, cars, trucks, and buses. Life is normal here on my street—calmer than normal, actually.

Fifty kilometers to the north and fifty kilometers to the south it’s been pouring cats and poodles all day. The map says I’m in a 50+ knot wind radius. Clouds look like they do in any rainy, stormy, sea weed-loaded typhoon. Local 7-Eleven’s were raided last night for their bread and snacks—a Taiwan tradition before every “big one”. The eye of the storm is even farther south of the rain south of me. But where are the wind and the rain? When will the palm trees bend to the wrath of the weather?   · · · →

Billy Graham Offers His Support to Chick-fil-A

July 26, 2012

The following statement was issued today by Billy Graham:

I want to express my support for my good friends Truett Cathy and his son Dan Cathy, and for their strong stand for the Christian faith. I’ve known their family for many years and have watched them grow Chick-fil-A into one of the best businesses in America while never compromising their values…

Each generation faces different issues and challenges, but our standard must always be measured by God’s word. I appreciate the Cathy family’s public support for God’s definition of marriage.

I also appreciate Governor Mike Huckabee’s leadership and for encouraging Americans to support Chick-fil-A on August 1…

Billy Graham is a strong advocate for the biblical definition of marriage and recently stated his public support for the marriage amendment in his home state of North Carolina, which voters resoundingly passed on May 8.
