Election 2012

Most of my ideas about the election have already been said… most people’s ideas have already been said by someone. Romney spiked in the first debate. Biden’s a jerk and it shows like a Freudian slip. And I don’t like Moderates anywhere… not in politics, business, or the Church.

In the second presidential debate, I thought both candidates didn’t answer the first few questions head-on. Was the Secretary of Energy right, that his job is not to affect fuel prices? We still don’t know if Romney agrees… but Mitt did say a lot of good things about energy North America independence. Toward the end, Romney really had his game. We don’t have a “gun” problem, we have a “family” problem. As much as I’ve come to respect Romney over the past six months—now that he’s more real and less calculating—I was still surprised to hear someone talk about how crime originates with the family situation… on national TV!

Why did Romney go from mushy-Moderate to hardball-Conservative? I think he grew up. Romney was raised in a religious and political environment where people aren’t allowed to say what they think. Then, he went to Massachusetts as a Conservative—really not allowed to say what he thinks. Acting normal like most of the nation is something that may be a breath of fresh water for the Romney fish. But, yes, I think we are seeing the real Mitt Romney. And that’s a good thing.

What does the 2012 election hold? I thought Obama would lose 2012 back when he won in 2008. Unlike most of the country, I already knew who Obama was because I’m not blinded by optics. The real question is whether the RINO’s will squander their 2012 victories like they did in 2000. Ever since Reagan, it seems that Republicans get more done with a when one branch is run by Democrats. Victory can make people lazy. Maybe Romney can even pull the RINO’s to the center—to be more Conservative.

Another big factor is Romney’s support for Taiwan. That’s a strategic ally in East Asia, just as Israel is vital in the Middle East.

For the record, I agree with Dick Morris…

Sadly, I won’t be voting in this election. I’ve lived in Asia nearly four years. Absentee ballots and voter registration are hasslesome, to say the least. The US Department of State does not help with voters who live overseas.

…but that should more than make up for all the dead people voting multiple times…
